The last event for the Peters & May foundation was the May 2019 Southampton Half Marathon. Mark Jenner, Financial Controller ran with his colleague, Paul Tate, to raise funds for Cancer Research UK, one of the Foundation’s nominated charities.
Mark explained his motivation for the run, ‘Both Paul and I had lost very close members of our families to cancer, so we wanted to raise funds for Cancer Research UK as well as some other very deserving charities supported by the Peters & May foundation.
It seems a long time ago now when I look back to those pre-pandemic times, but I remember we both felt that we’d run a pretty decent race and were happy with our times.’
As the pandemic swept across the world and restrictions were introduced, planned fund- raising events for 2020 were regrettably postponed. Looking forward to 2021, the Trustees continue to meet to discuss possible events that might be run within Covid guidelines.
Ideas will have to be adapted for the current circumstances and are likely to be more cautious. ‘Perhaps a team summer fete or a socially distanced obstacle race’ suggests Foundation Trustee Johanna Jacks.
But whatever it is, the determination to make a difference through charitable giving hasn’t diminished.
